Forging is a common metal processing technology. This processing method is to plastically deform the metal under the pressure exerted by the forging machine, so as to become a forging with a suitable shape and size. In the process of forging, the metal blank is forged many times, the internal microstructure is optimized, and the mechanical properties are also improved.

Forging according to the processing temperature can be divided into hot forging, warm forging and cold forging.

The hot forging temperature is higher than the recrystallization temperature of steel, above 800 ℃. Such high temperature is conducive to optimizing the as-cast structure of steel, refining grains and improving the mechanical properties of steel. It is the way of forging workpieces in most industries. The warm forging temperature is between 300 ℃ and 800 ℃. This processing technology can improve the quality and accuracy of forgings and is generally used for forging precision forgings; cold forging is generally carried out at room temperature, can replace some cutting processing, warm forging and cold forging are usually used to process the forging of automobile, general machinery and other parts, is the future development direction of die forging.

According to the forming mechanism, forging can be divided into free forging, die forging and special forging.

Free forging using hot forging, can be divided into machine free forging and manual free forging, the use of impact force or pressure is not restricted, free to change the shape of forgings, suitable for the production of small quantities of forgings.

There are three forms of die forging: hot forging, warm forging and cold forging. During forging, the metal blank is deformed under pressure in a forging die cavity with a certain shape. The material utilization rate of this forging method is extremely high, but it is necessary to pay attention to Control the volume of the blank to avoid the wear of the forging die. It is generally suitable for the production of light weight and large batch forgings.

Special forging has a variety of forging forms, such as roll forging, radial forging or liquid die forging. It is usually used for forgings with special shapes. For example, roll forging is used for preforming forgings to reduce subsequent forming pressure. Radial forging can be used for forming large batteries. Liquid forging die can directly prepare metal matrix composite tubes, bars and other forgings.
